Haselbach Castle

Haselbach Castle is a castle in Haselbach in the municipality of Tiefenbach in the district of Passau. Haselbach is located between Tiefenbach and Ruderting. Approximately in the center of the village is the castle and brewery complex. The exact origin of the current castle is not known; the area probably came into the possession of the Lords of Hals in 1207.

From the end of the 14th century, the knights of Pfeil resided in the former castle. After their extinction in the male line, Johann Sigmund von Kading, who married the heiress Afra, came into possession of the lordship in 1624. Since 1630, the Haselbach lordship was granted brewing rights, game preserve, and hunting rights. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was devastated by Swedish troops in 1633.

Reconstruction progressed slowly and was only completed in 1725 under Johann Franz Martin von Kading. This gave the castle essentially its present appearance. In 1748, the Kadinger family died out. The new owners were the Barons von Seitz; after 1810, a Baron von Schönbrunn zu Mattau acquired the castle through marriage.

In 1818, Haselbach Castle came into civilian ownership and was converted into a brewery. In 1871, the complex passed into the hands of the Stockbauer family. The Haselbach Castle Brewery was acquired by Löwenbrauerei Passau in 2002.
