Haselbach Castle

The exact origin of the current castle is not fully documented. It is believed that the area where the castle stands came into the possession of the Lords of Hals as early as 1207. From the late 14th century, the knights of Pfeil inhabited the then-fortified complex. After this family died out in the male line, Johann Sigmund von Kading acquired ownership of the estate in 1624 through marriage to the heiress Afra. From 1630, brewing rights, game preserves, and hunting rights were associated with the Haselbach lordship. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle suffered severe destruction by Swedish troops in 1633. Reconstruction was slow and was not completed until 1725 under Johann Franz Martin von Kading, at which point the castle received its present form. After the Kadinger family died out in 1748, the Barons von Seitz took over the property. After 1810, it came into the possession of a Baron von Schönbrunn zu Mattau through marriage.
