Haslangkreit Castle

In 1285, Gereut Castle appeared for the first time when it came into the possession of Berchtold von Schneitbach. Around 1300, the Haslang family acquired the castle. This family was elevated to the status of Imperial Barons in 1622 and to Counts in 1745 (the last of the comital family died in 1804). Many important officers and officials in the service of the Bavarian rulers emerged from this noble family. In 1840, the comital Maldeghem family acquired the castle, which they never inhabited. In 1972, the Rössig family bought the building along with two hectares of land for 160,000 DM.

The medieval moated castle was probably expanded into a representative four-wing complex with an arcaded courtyard at the latest in the 16th century. Around 1675/80, the castle, which, like the village, was owned by the Haslang family for almost 500 years, received its baroque appearance. The castle chapel of St. George was also expanded in baroque style.
