Haunsheim Castle

The origins of Haunsheim Castle date back to 1265, when the Lords of Haunsheim began constructing a fortress. Between 1601 and 1604, Imperial Treasurer Zacharias Geizkofler von Gailenbach und Haunsheim had a four-winged castle built on the foundations of the medieval fortress. A fire in 1823 led to the demolition of the south wing, followed by the west wing a few years later. The remaining buildings were subsequently redesigned in the Neo-Gothic style. In 1849, the castle came into the possession of the vom Holtz family, who undertook further Neo-Gothic alterations. In 1864, the estate passed to Franz Carl Hauch, whose family remains the owner to this day and has been carrying out renovations since 1980.
