In Bad Soden-Salmünster, Hesse, Hausen Castle is a structure that originated from a medieval water or motte-and-bailey castle. It initially served to secure access to Fulda possessions and was later transformed into an administrative seat.

History+

The locality of Husen was first documented in 1319. The Jazza or Jossa family is considered to be the builders of the original Hausen Castle. In 1345, Friedrich von Hutten acquired the estates, but the property fragmented due to inheritance divisions and pledges. In 1430, Hans von Hutten zum Stolzenberg consolidated the property rights, establishing the line of the Lords of Hutten zu Hausen. Despite a castle peace agreement signed in 1517, Frowin von Hutten temporarily lost his estates in 1522 due to his role in the Knights' War but managed to reacquire them in 1526.
