Heeren Castle

Haus Heeren, also known as Heeren Castle, is a manor house in the Heeren-Werve district of Kamen. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century by the von Bodelschwingh / von der Recke-Heeren family and has been in the private possession of the von Plettenberg-Heeren family since at least 1767.

The manor house dates back to 1606. It was built as an early Baroque moated castle with a square tower at the southeast corner, which was extended in 1857 by an annex with a polygonal bay tower to the east. The moat surrounding the rectangular, two-story plastered building still carries water today. The castle building is founded on an oak pile grating. A three-arch bridge connects the manor house with the outer bailey, which was built as a three-wing complex open towards the manor house. The two-story gatehouse with a round-arched passage is located in the southern building of the outer bailey.

As a Baroque manor of the former landed gentry, Haus Heeren presents itself with its manor house and outer bailey in a rare architectural coherence and in a pleasingly good structural condition.
