Heilgersdorf Castle, a baroque jewel, is situated on the outskirts of the eponymous district in Upper Franconia. Despite various reuses, it has retained its representative appearance.

History+

The origins of Heilgersdorf date back to the 14th century, when the property belonged to the Lords of Stein zu Lichtenstein. An initial castle complex, mentioned in 1361, is said to have stood on wooden piles in the middle of a lake. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the fortress was plundered but subsequently restored. Further destruction occurred during the Thirty Years' War, but these damages were also repaired.
