Frühe Geschichte
The castle is first mentioned in 1233 as being in the possession of Dietmar von Gutenbrunn. Ownership changed in 1567 to the Jörger family and in 1621 to the Herberstein family. In the mid-18th century, the Viennese auxiliary bishop Franz Anton Marxer had the castle rebuilt. Since 1964, the castle has housed the Baroque collection of the Lower Austrian State Museum.
