Heinersreuth Castle

The old castle of Heinersreuth near Presseck was once the property of the Lords of Wildenstein, from whom it also received its name – Wildensteiner Schlösschen (Wildenstein Castle). The enchantingly beautiful building was constructed in the early 16th century. In 1697, the imperial knightly dominion of Wildenstein passed to Count Voit von Rieneck and finally fell to Bavaria in 1823.

King Max I eventually handed over the Wildensteiner Schlösschen to his finance minister Maximilian Freiherr von Lerchenfeld as a knight's fief. The first Lerchenfeld in Heinersreuth then had the so-called Ministerhaus (Minister's House) built in the castle park – a rare example of neoclassical castle architecture in Franconia. The impressive building was erected by the Darmstadt court architect Georg Moller in 1827.

The castle ensemble in Heinersreuth, framed by an extensive park and nestled in the hills of the Franconian Forest, is magnificent to behold in every season. Especially, however, when in late spring the azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom and the castle park shows itself from its most beautiful side, of which Baron and Baroness von Lerchenfeld are particularly proud and which they gladly open to thousands of visitors for the garden exhibition.
