In Heinrichsruh, Thuringia, stands Heinrichsruh Castle, a neoclassical palace that once served as the summer residence for the princely family of Schleiz. Its architectural design, reminiscent of an Italian villa, continues to define the appearance of the complex.

History+

Construction of the Heinrichsruh Palace commenced in 1806, following the elevation of Heinrich XLII. to prince. The main building and its outbuildings were completed in 1808. Initially conceived as a summer residence for the princely family of Schleiz, the palace temporarily served as the official residence after a castle fire in Schleiz in 1837. The building, a two-story rubble stone structure, was characterized by a spacious layout. In 1985, renovation work to convert it into apartments led to alterations to both the interior and exterior of the castle, including the removal of a portico and a southern annex.
