In Bad Rappenau-Heinsheim in the Heilbronn district, Heinsheim Castle, an 18th-century structure, is located. It is an example of the relocation of noble residences from the countryside into the village and now serves as a hotel.

History+

The original seat of power in Heinsheim was at Ehrenberg Castle, situated outside the village. This castle suffered damage during the Thirty Years' War. When the Lords of Ehrenberg died out in 1647, the local lordship changed hands. The new lords moved their residence into the village and presumably built a moated castle. On its site, the Barons von Racknitz, originally from Styria, began constructing the present castle around 1725. In 1805, the Racknitz family also acquired Ehrenberg Castle and part of the Zimmerhof from the Landgrave of Hesse.
