Herdringen Castle

The estate's origins date back to 1376, when the Herdringen manor was first documented. Until 1501, the Kettelburg was the seat of the Ketteler family. After the decay of this old castle, the Hanxledensche Gräftenhof, a half-timbered building on an artificial island, was established to its west. In 1618, the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn, Dietrich von Fürstenberg, acquired the estate and gifted it to his nephew Friedrich von Fürstenberg. Between 1683 and 1723, the three-winged Baroque forecourt was constructed. Due to structural defects, cramped conditions, and his elevation to the rank of count, Franz Egon Graf von Fürstenberg decided in the 1840s to rebuild the manor house.
