Herrnau Castle

The name Herrnau, which originally referred to a part of the riparian forest between Hellbrunner Allee and Salzach, first appeared in 1574. In 1631, the former valet Philip Vermeulen built the Herrenhof Herrnau. Later, in 1685, Johann Jakob Perger, who called himself “von Pergrain” after his ennoblement, became the owner. The castle received its current form between 1741 and 1744 under Court Chancellor Hieronymus Nikolaus Anton Christani von Rall. Subsequently, it belonged to the comital family von Quabeck, before passing into the possession of Elector Ferdinand of Tuscany in 1805. From 1846, the Kuenburg family of counts owned it. Today, it is owned by the Clary-Aldringen family.
