The castle was built in the 14th century by the Lords of Eichstett. Later, ownership changed to the Prince-Bishopric of Regensburg. In the second half of the 18th century, a new building was constructed. In 1919, Jakob Völkl acquired the castle, in whose possession it remained until 1958.
