Heubach Castle

Heubach Castle is a castle built in the 16th century in Heubach in the Ostalbkreis.

On the grounds of the present-day castle, there was a rectory of Königsbronn Monastery until 1524. In 1525, Georg VII von Woellwarth bought the land in exchange for a barn, a garden, and a granary in Heubach and had a three-story rectangular building erected on it. After the death of Georg VII, the castle served for a time as the dower house for his wife Barbara Eckbrecht von Türckheim. After Maria Magdalena von Woellenwarth married Johann von Wessen, he bought the castle for 3800 guilders. Wessen's second wife, Heinrica Louisa Schertlin von Burtenbach, sold the castle to Württemberg in 1726. In 1737, the castle was auctioned for 3100 guilders to the Heubach surgeon Johann Knauss. After Knauss's death in 1803, the castle was briefly converted into the mayor's residence, and subsequently, the castle was divided among several owners. In 1985, the city of Heubach decided to purchase the almost dilapidated building. In 1991, after the purchase of the last private ownership share, a renovation of the castle could begin, which was completed in 1997. Today, the castle houses the city library, which moved in in 1997, on the first floor, as well as the wedding room and the corset museum of the city of Heubach.
