Himmelgarten Castle

The farm, already called "Hymelgarten" in 1361/64, was originally imperial property and was granted in 1401 as an imperial fief by King Ruprecht to his financiers, the Nuremberg bankers and mining entrepreneurs Herdegen and Jobst Valzner. In the 16th century, the farm was owned by the St. Katharinen Monastery in Nuremberg and passed to the Fürer family in 1558, who in 1609 also redeemed property and interest, transforming the now freely owned farm into a "celebrated seat of the Muses".

A manor house was first mentioned around 1623 by Müllner as a "burgher's residence". After damage, probably during the Thirty Years' War, a new building or extensive renovation was carried out in 1668 by Georg Sigmund Fürer, with an inscription then affixed to the house referring to the name Himmelgarten "VranIos DeVs InCoLVMes hos sospItet hortos" ("May God preserve these heavenly gardens unharmed"); the highlighted capital letters yield the year of construction (MDCLVVVIII = 1668). Still mentioned in 1694 as a "well-built country estate", the manor house was repaired and extended in 1712 by Georg Sigmund Fürer von Haimendorf (inscription in the gable under the console roof).

The castle estate was dismembered in 1844/45, sold to farmers for 29,076 guilders, and subsequently was barely recognizable as a manor house. A successful renovation around 1995 restored its former character as a stately home. The two-story building with a high gable roof and two wide dormer windows, like the small transversely placed gable house, shows half-timbering on the upper floors and ashlar masonry on the ground floor. The gable side of the annex is adorned with a painted sundial.
