Hochberg Castle, originally a medieval complex that was transformed into a stately castle in the 16th century, is located in Remseck am Neckar. It is an example of the evolution of a defensive structure into a noble residence in Baden-Württemberg.

History+

The origins of Hochberg Castle date back to the 13th century, when the local nobility, the Lords of Hochberg-Hochdorf, were mentioned and presumably built the medieval core of the castle. Around 1300, the Lords of Nothaft became the owners. An expansion took place in 1593 under Heinrich Schickhardt, who extended the property with a four-story gatehouse and the southeastern main facade, integrating the existing stone house to create the New Castle. In 1779, the castle was expanded by Friedrich Eugen von Württemberg into a summer residence and from 1781 was used by the Dukes of Württemberg for hunting.
