Hochhausen Castle

The origins of the castle date back to the 15th century, evidenced by a preserved round arch frieze. The first written mention of it as a castle occurred in 1499, owned by the Horneck von Hornberg family, who had received the fief from Weißenburg Abbey. In the 18th century, after the extinction of the Protestant line of the Horneck von Hornberg, ownership passed to the Bavarian, Catholic branch. Confessional conflicts and low income led to the reversion of the fief to the Prince-Bishopric of Speyer in 1748.
