Höchstadt Castle

Höchstadt Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1157 as being owned by the Diocese of Bamberg. The castle was built in the 11th century. Renovations and extensions took place from 1208 - 1236 and 1399 - 1421. In 1572, Prince-Bishop Veit II had the castle rebuilt. In 1688, the castle was severely damaged by fire and rebuilt from 1711 - 1713. By the end of the 19th century, the castle had fallen into disrepair, so it had to be stabilized in 1894. In 1963, ownership transferred to the city of Höchstadt.
