Höchstadt Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1157 as being owned by the Diocese of Bamberg. The castle was built in the 11th century. Renovations and extensions took place from 1208 - 1236 and 1399 - 1421. In 1572, Prince-Bishop Veit II had the castle rebuilt.
