The Castle can be visited

East of Vienna in Lower Austria, Schloss Hof, the largest of the Marchfeld castles, stands on a river terrace. Originally a medieval fortress, it was transformed into a Baroque palace under Prince Eugene of Savoy and served as his summer residence.

The origins of Schloss Hof date back to the 12th century, when a "Veste Hof" was mentioned, owned by the Eckartsauer family. In the 16th century, Eustachius Pranckh von Rickersdorf acquired the estate. His son Friedrich moved the castle to the "Hofberg" in 1620 to protect it from floods. In 1725, Prince Eugene of Savoy bought the complex and had it expanded into a Baroque palace by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. After Eugene's death, the palace passed to his niece Anna Viktoria von Savoyen, who later lost it to Joseph Friedrich von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. In 1755, Maria Theresia acquired the palace, and Joseph II added another floor in 1772.
