Hoflößnitz Castle
Hoflößnitz Castle, also known as the Berg- und Lusthaus, is a historic winery in Radebeul-Oberlößnitz, Saxony. Once a country estate of the Wettin dynasty, it served the Saxon electors and kings as a stately manor house amidst their vineyards and is today an important testament to Saxon wine culture.
History+
For almost five centuries, Hoflößnitz was the center of courtly viticulture in Saxony. As an electoral or royal Saxon country estate, it hosted the rulers during their stays in the wine region. The main building, the Berg- und Lusthaus, was also referred to as Hoflößnitz Castle during the Historicism period. Today, it is part of the Saxon Wine Museum, with an exhibition on the history of Saxon viticulture on the ground floor. Particularly noteworthy are the original electoral living and sleeping quarters on the upper floor, which are considered an outstanding example of 17th-century decorative art.
