Hohehorst Castle stands in the landscape of Schwanewede-Löhnhorst in Lower Saxony. Once conceived as a country estate, it has a history ranging from industrial splendor to social uses.

History+

The current Hohehorst Manor was built between 1928 and 1929 by the industrial magnate G. Carl Lahusen as a summer residence for his family. Following the collapse of the Nordwolle conglomerate, owned by the Lahusen family, the estate became part of the bankruptcy proceedings in 1931. During the Nazi era, it served as a Lebensborn home. In the post-war period, the building was used in various ways, including as a hospital and later, until the end of 2012, as a drug therapy center.
