In St. Florian-Hohenbrunn, in the Linz Land district of Upper Austria, Austria, Hohenbrunn Castle, a former hunting lodge, stands at an elevation of approximately 269 meters above sea level. It now serves as a museum.

History+

Hohenbrunn Castle was constructed between 1722 and 1732 under the direction of master builder Jakob Steinhuber, based on designs by Jakob Prandtauer. It was built on the site of the birthplace of Provost Johann Födermayr, a farmer's son who contributed to numerous buildings for St. Florian Abbey. The castle's name originates from a tall water tower erected here between 1719 and 1724 to supply drinking water to the abbey, though it was dismantled in the early 19th century for safety reasons.
