Hohendorf Castle

The origins of the Hohendorf estate date back to 1733, when Johann Reinhold von Trautvetter established a majorate here. Through inheritance, the property later passed to Wilhelm Reinhold Freiherr von Klot, who incorporated the name and coat of arms of the Trautvetter family into his title. The design for the current castle is attributed to the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel, who conceived it in a historicizing Gothic style for Ernst Malte Freiherr von Klot-Trautvetter. After his death, the construction was completed in 1854 by Friedrich Hitzig. Other sources date the castle's construction to 1840 or the years 1858/59, built on the foundations of an older manor house. The estate once included seven properties and approximately 2500 hectares of land.
