Hohenheim Castle

The roots of Hohenheim date back to 1100, when it was first documented. In 1768, the estate came into the possession of Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg. From 1772, the Duke had the property converted into a moated castle, which was declared a summer residence in 1776. Simultaneously, a unique “English Village” was created with over 60 miniature buildings in Rococo style, some elements of which, like the Roman Tavern and the Playhouse, are still preserved today. From 1782, Carl Eugen began the construction of a residential palace, which, however, remained unfinished with his death in 1793.
