On a hill above the Glantal valley in the municipality of Liebenfels in Carinthia, Austria, stands Hohenstein Castle, a cruciform complex. Its symmetrical architecture and the historical finds in its vicinity.

History+

The origins of Hohenstein Castle date back to 1537, when it was built under Herrmann Kulmer. The complex underwent an expansion around 1589 under Balthasar Kulmer. The castle's cruciform structure, with a longer east-west wing intersected in the middle by a north-south wing, was created during this period. Semicircular towers at the ends of the longer wing and a two-story arcaded building in the southwest corner characterize its appearance.
