Hohenstein Castle

The origins of Hohenstein Castle date back to 1250, when a castle belonging to the Lords of Howenstein was mentioned at this location. After this line died out in 1443, ownership passed to Württemberg, which granted it as a fief to the Lords of Sachsenheim. They later sold the castle to the Lords of Talheim and the Lords of Lierheim, with the Talheimers passing their share to the Lords of Winnenden. By 1550, the castle was already in ruins and reverted to Württemberg in 1555. The new owners, the Lords of Plieningen and the bailiff of Brackenheim, had the ruins demolished in 1593 and erected a castle on the same site. However, a hundred years later, it was burned down by the troops of Ezéchiel de Mélac during the Palatinate War of Succession.
