Hohenthurm Castle in Saxony-Anhalt is a complex built on the remains of a medieval castle. It is located in Landsberg-Hohenthurm in the Saalekreis district and is characterized by its complex building history, ranging from Romanesque origins to the Neo-Renaissance.

History+

The origins of Hohenthurm Castle lie in a fortress that once belonged to the March of Landsberg. An early ministerialis, Arnoldus de alta turri, was mentioned as early as 1244. After various owners, including the Thuringian Landgrave Albrecht the Degenerate and Duke Magnus of Brunswick, Margrave Friedrich II of Meissen repurchased the March of Landsberg in 1347. Hohenthurm was assigned to the Reideburg castle district and remained with the Archbishopric of Magdeburg. The Hohenthurm family died out in 1398, and the fief was re-granted. Until 1653, the Rauchhaupt family almost continuously owned the complex.
