Holdereggen Castle

The grounds where Holdereggen Castle stands were first mentioned in 1497 under the name “Holderegk”. The construction of the current castle took place between 1887 and 1890 according to designs by architect Georg von Hauberrisser. The client was the entrepreneur Hermann Näher, originally from Aeschach, who had become wealthy through trade in tobacco, spices, ivory, and precious woods in Sumatra. After returning home in 1879 and marrying Louise von Gonzenbach in 1881, Näher acquired the property to build a castle-like villa there, replacing the previously existing Villa Diehl. Despite his merits and the conferral of honorary citizenship of Lindau in 1902, Näher faced bankruptcy due to business difficulties. The castle became part of the insolvency estate. After Näher's death in 1908, Privy Councillor Adolph Brougier acquired the property in May 1910.
