Holsthum Castle

The history of the estate dates back to the 15th century when the von Nickenich family owned Holsthum. From 1496, the Lords of Metternich from the Burscheid line took over the estate. In 1753, the Holsthum estate passed into the possession of the Barons Schenk von Schmidtburg. The current manor house was built in 1789 by Johann Dominik Laeis, an administrator, and his son Matthias Dominik Laeis, with the permission of Baroness Marie Therese von Schmidtburg, née von Eltz-Rodendorf. In 2010, the building underwent an exterior renovation.
