The castle is first mentioned in 1127 as "Gschlößl" in Holzhausen. In 1527, ownership passed to Gilch Hofer von Wigiläus Hund. In 1612, Dr. Cosmas Fagh, Chancellor of Burghausen, bought the property. In 1644, ownership passed to Johann Greimolt and in 1698 to Christoph Mayer. In 1718, Vigilius Mayer inherited the castle and had the current castle built. In 1856, the castle was owned by farmer Johann Mayr. At the beginning of the 20th century, the property was used as an inn with an agricultural business. In 1931, the Landheimverein acquired the property and had alterations made to the barn and the upper floor. In 1932, the castle served as a rural school home. In 1978, the castle was placed under monument protection. From 1993 to 1995, a complete renovation took place.
