Holzhausen Castle in Frankfurt am Main is a baroque moated castle that once served as a summer residence for a patrician family. Today, it is in Holzhausen Park in the Nordend district.

History+

The agricultural use of the area by the Holzhausen family can be traced back to the Middle Ages. At that time, a moated castle stood here, which was expanded in 1540 but destroyed in 1552 during the siege of Frankfurt. After its reconstruction in 1571, Johann Hieronymus von Holzhausen had a moated castle built on the foundations of the old castle in 1729. The plans for this came from Louis Remy de la Fosse. The simple, rectangular building with a mansard roof was accessible via a three-arched stone bridge.
