The oldest castle in the Ostallgäu district, Hopferau Castle, is a structure in the holiday resort of Hopferau. It is distinguished by its Neo-Gothic architecture dating back to the 15th century.

History+

The origins of Hopferau Castle trace back to 1468, when Knight Siegmund-Friedrich von Freyberg zu Eisenberg commissioned its construction. The three-story residential building served as the center of a newly formed small dominion, which arose from an inheritance division. Between 1830 and 1840, the castle underwent renovation under the direction of Domenico Quaglio.
