Hoym Castle
The town of Hoym was first mentioned in a document in 961. The castle was built in 1038 by Bishop Burchard I of Halberstadt. In 1301, the castle was mentioned as Castrum Hoym. In 1417, the Princes of Anhalt had a palace built on the walls of the castle. From 1714 - 21, the palace was rebuilt by the Princes of Anhalt-Bernburg-Hoym. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Today, the palace houses the largest facility for people with disabilities in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
