Hüffe Castle (Lashorst)

The origins of Hüffe Castle date back to the late 13th century, when it was built as a moated castle. The first confirmed mention of the Hüffe manor dates to 1439. It once served, similar to the nearby Hollwinkel Castle, as a western outpost of the Bishopric of Minden. The early owners, the Schloen family, known as Gehle, owned both estates. The manor was marked by territorial and inheritance disputes until the 18th century, which were even heard before the Imperial Chamber Court in 1609. Colonel Christoph von Wrisberg, lord of the manor from 1554 to 1580, played a role in these disputes, which were also carried out violently. In 1593, Philipp Wilhelm von Cornberg acquired the castle, which again triggered conflicts with the owners of Hollwinkel Castle. He resolved these disputes in his favor with the help of the Landgrave of Hesse. Shortly before his death he was able to secure the Hüffe estate for his descendants.
