Hueth Castle

In the Kleve district, approximately 1.5 kilometers north of Rees-Bienen in North Rhine-Westphalia, lies Hueth Castle, a moated castle. The complex, which dates back to a medieval foundation, has been redesigned several times and is now privately owned, publicly inaccessible.

History+

The origins of Hueth Castle date back to the 14th century. In 1361, Knight Rutger von Hekeren received permission to build a castle in the Huether Bruch, replacing a burnt-down knight's seat. Already in 1364, Rutger pledged the newly built castle to Archbishop Engelbert III of Cologne as a fief. In the late 14th or early 15th century, the complex came into the possession of the von Wylich family, who held it for over 300 years and had it converted into a castle in the 17th century.
