Hundisburg Castle

The origins of the castle date back to the early 12th century, when the Hunoldäsburg was built on a spur of land at this site. Between 1196 and 1205, Archbishop Ludolph of Magdeburg acquired the castle for the archdiocese. In 1452, Hundisburg came into the possession of the von Alvensleben family, who expanded the estate into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. After destruction during the Thirty Years' War, it was rebuilt in its original style. From 1693, the conversion into a Baroque castle with gardens began under the Brunswick regional master builder Hermann Korb, based on designs by Johann Balthasar Lauterbach.
