Hunyadi Castle in Maria Enzersdorf, Lower Austria, is a late Baroque building that captivates with its rich history and its current role as a cultural center. Once a free manor, it evolved into a representative castle that is now a popular event venue.

History+

At the site of the present castle, a free manor stood in the late 16th century. Early owners included Dr. Sigmund von Oedt and Imperial Councillor Balthasar von Nollarn. In 1766, the Viennese merchant Joseph von Patuzzi acquired the estate and had the current castle built. Empress Maria Theresia confirmed the free manor privilege in the same year. The castle changed hands multiple times, including to Count Johann Josef von Seilern (1778), Landgrave Ernst von Hessen-Philippsthal (1818), Count Carl von Neipperg (1832), and Count Moritz Almásy (1837). Between 1876 and 1901, it was owned by Alexandrine and Count Koloman Hunyadi, who gave the castle its current name and were known for their lavish parties.
