Iggenhausen Caslte

Iggenhausen Castle was first mentioned in a document around 1070 as property of Corvey Monastery. Some sources even date the first mention of the locality of Iggenhausen to the early 10th or even 9th century. From the original medieval motte-and-bailey castle, remnants of the curtain wall and a formerly water-filled moat, which was drained in 1860, are still preserved in the southwestern area. The current manor house, a plastered building with ashlar masonry in a Neo-Gothic style with classical elements, was built between 1856 and 1865 under the direction of Ferdinand Ludwig August Merckel. It features a main risalit with a stone loggia and a stepped gable, decorated with corner fascias and battlements.
