Ilvesheim Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1358, when the castle estate and the town of Ilvesheim were granted as a fief by the Count Palatine to the Lords of Erligheim. A predecessor building, the Erlenburg, was first mentioned in 1511. After the Erligheim family died out, the fief passed to the Landschad von Steinach around 1571. During the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689, the Erlenburg was destroyed. Lothar Friedrich von Hundheim, who took over the feudal lordship shortly thereafter, began rebuilding the Baroque castle around 1700. It was designed as a three-story central building with four corner towers and onion domes, intended to serve as his residence. Between 1750 and 1773, the wing buildings were added, serving as an orangery and kitchen. In the 18th century, an economic building and the official courtyard followed.
