Immenstadt Castle

In Immenstadt in Oberallgäu stands Immenstadt Castle, a structure that once served as an administrative building and was later expanded into a town castle. Its history is linked to the noble families of the region.

The castle's origins date back to 1550, when Count Hugo XVI of Montfort-Rothenfels presumably had an administrative building constructed on this site. An expansion into a castle took place between 1595 and 1620 under Georg Freiherr zu Königsegg. For this expansion, citizen houses had to be dismantled and relocated in front of the eastern city gate. The south wing was built at the end of the 17th century, and the west wing was added in 1746.
