Imshausen Castle

Imshausen is a district of Bebra. It is located in the midst of the wooded hilly landscape between the North Hessian towns of Bebra and Sontra and has about 200 inhabitants.

Imshausen was first mentioned in 1278 in a document from the nearby Cornberg Monastery and was an aristocratic village early on. A park leads to the manor house with its outbuildings. This was for a long time the Imshausen seat of the von Trott zu Solz family. The manor house was built in 1791, two years after the French Revolution, by Rudolf von Trott zu Solz and his wife Eleonore Christiane, clearly based on the then dominant French architectural style in the transition from Rococo to Classicism.

The most famous citizen of the village is the resistance fighter Adam von Trott zu Solz, who lived in the manor house with his parents from 1920–1921. From 1950–1995, the house was the seat of the Imshausen Community, founded by his sister Vera von Trott zu Solz, which today inhabits the Tannenhof above Imshausen. The Community also initiated the founding of the Adam von Trott Foundation, which today uses the manor house and the neighboring Visser't Hooft House, created by converting a former barn, as a conference and meeting center.
