Innernstein Castle

The first documentary mention of a Chunradus de Staine occurred in 1209 by Baumgartenberg Abbey. The Staine family owned the castle until the 15th century. Originally vassals of the Lords of Machland and later the Lords of Clam-Velburg, they pledged parts of the property and eventually became feudal tenants of the Kapeller and later the Liechtensteiner. Until the 19th century, Innernstein remained a Liechtenstein knight's fief. The castle acquired its current form as a Renaissance complex in the second half of the 16th century, with the year 1589 documented on a sgraffito on the west side. In 1906, Baron Hermann von Tinti added a neo-Gothic residential building made of quarry stone to the north side of the courtyard.
