Irlbach Castle

The castle was built by the Counts of Bray-Steinburg. Later, ownership transferred to the Lords of Fraunberg, who rebuilt the castle in 1568 under Karl von Frauenberg. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. In the early 19th century, ownership transferred to Franz Gabriel de Bray, who rebuilt the castle in 1811.

The original construction dates back to the 12th century, with the first documented mention in 1120. The castle initially served as a defensive fortress and was continuously expanded over the centuries. Significant structural changes occurred in the Gothic and Renaissance periods, which are still visible in parts of the masonry today.

A major turning point in the castle's history was its destruction during the Thirty Years' War. After its devastation, it was rebuilt with great effort, though some of its medieval features were lost in favor of more contemporary architectural styles. The reconstruction aimed to restore its former glory while adapting to the needs of the time.
