The Castle - A Journey Through Time+
From Manor House to Cultural Monument+

The castle, a former manor house, was erected in the 16th century. Its eventful history reflects the changing times and the various noble families who resided here.

The Early Years and Architectural Development

Originally conceived as a fortified residential tower, the building underwent significant architectural changes over the centuries. In the 17th century, a wing was added, giving the complex its characteristic U-shape. The Baroque period left its mark in the form of elaborate stucco work and ceiling paintings, which can still be admired in some rooms today.

Owners and Their Influence

The von Hohenstein family, who owned the castle for over 200 years, played a decisive role in its expansion and artistic design. Under their patronage, the castle became a center of culture and hospitality. Later, the von Lindenberg family took over the estate and initiated further renovations, particularly in the castle park.

The Castle in Modern Times+

After a period of decline in the 20th century, the castle was extensively renovated in the 1990s and converted into a cultural and event center. Today, it houses a museum that showcases the history of the region and the castle itself. Regular exhibitions, concerts, and theater performances attract numerous visitors.

The Museum and Its Collections

The castle museum offers a fascinating insight into the life of past centuries. Exhibits include historical furniture, paintings, and everyday objects. A special focus is on the collection of medieval weapons and armor, which impressively illustrates the defensive character of the early castle.

Events and Cultural Offerings

The castle has established itself as a popular venue for a wide range of events. From classical concerts in the magnificent ballroom to open-air theater in the castle courtyard, there is something for every taste. The annual medieval festival, which transforms the castle into a vibrant historical backdrop, is a particular highlight.

The Castle Park - A Green Oasis+

The extensive castle park, designed in the English landscape style, invites visitors to stroll and relax. Ancient trees, picturesque ponds, and winding paths create an idyllic atmosphere. A rose garden, newly laid out in recent years, delights with its variety of colors and scents.

Flora and Fauna

The park is home to a diverse flora and fauna. Rare tree species and exotic plants thrive here, carefully tended by experienced gardeners. Birdwatchers will also get their money's worth, as numerous bird species nest in the old trees.

Recreation and Leisure Activities

The castle park is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. Joggers and walkers appreciate the well-maintained paths, while families enjoy picnics on the spacious lawns. A small café in the former orangery invites visitors to linger with coffee and cake.
