Isenschnibbe Castle

The origins of Isenschnibbe Castle date back to the 10th century when it was built as a regional fortress. Under its protection, the town of Gardelegen developed from 1100 onwards. In 1378, the castle came into the possession of the von Alvensleben family, who held it until 1857. Margrave Frederick I conquered the castle in 1414, thereby solidifying the rule of the Hohenzollerns in the western Altmark. In 1783, the original castle was demolished, and a two-story half-timbered building in country house style was erected in its place. From around 1905, the castle belonged to the Bloch von Blottnitz family, who sold it to the Prince zur Lippe in 1939.
