Jesberg Castle, also known as Maximilian Castle, is a historic building in Jesberg in the Schwalm-Eder district. It was built in the 18th century as a summer residence for Prince Maximilian of Hesse and its architectural kinship with Kassel palace buildings.

History+

The history of Jesberg Castle begins in 1721, when the Hessian branch of the Linsingen family died out and Jesberg Castle, including its lands, reverted to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel. Landgrave Karl transferred the fief to his ninth son Maximilian, who acquired additional land. In 1723, Prince Maximilian had the castle built as a summer residence below the castle hill in the Treisbachgrund. He lived there with his wife, Princess Friederike Charlotte of Hesse-Darmstadt, and their four daughters.
