Johnsdorf Castle

The origins of Johnsdorf Castle likely date back to the early Middle Ages when it was built by the Aychenstauden family. Initially, it functioned as a defensive fortification against Kurucs and Turks. In 1587, Hans Adam Narringer acquired the property. Tragically, his wife and son Seyfried were killed during a Hungarian invasion in 1605. After Narringer's death, Georg Christoph inherited the castle, leading to inheritance disputes due to his extravagance. In 1616, the castle was auctioned and purchased by Katharina Elisabeth Freifrau von Galler. She undertook extensive renovations and expansions of the severely dilapidated building, raising the inner defensive wall, creating guest rooms, and adding arcades and corridors in the courtyard.
