Kainbach Castle

The origins of the estate date back to the second half of the 15th century, when a farmhouse belonging to the Styrian provincial princes stood on this site. This farm, granted to Andree Peckh in 1478, was likely destroyed by Hungarians or Turks as early as 1480. In 1620, Andreas Eder von Kainbach had a noble residence built on the same spot, which he inhabited with his brother Thoman. A newly consecrated court chapel, Maria Hilf, was first used for a requiem mass in 1629. Eder converted the estate into a fideicommissum in 1647. After his death, Ignaz Leopold von Kainbach inherited the property in 1651. A second chapel, dedicated to Saint Anthony, was first mentioned in 1730.
