Kalbeck Castle, an estate in the municipality of Weeze in the Lower Rhine region, has a history ranging from a medieval farmstead to its current structure.

History+

The origins of Kalbeck date back to the 14th century, when a farmstead was expanded into a moated castle, first documented in 1326. After a fire on New Year's Eve 1799/1800, the original complex was severely damaged. The von Vittinghoff-Schell family, who acquired the estate through marriage and made it their main residence, decided at the beginning of the 20th century to build a new castle. Between 1906 and 1910, a new castle in the Historicist style was built about one kilometer from the old site, designed by architect Hermann Schaedtler.
