Kalling Castle

The origins of Kalling date back to the High Middle Ages. In the 15th and 16th centuries, a noble seat of the Starringer zu Hofstarring family was located here. Around 1540, an initial Renaissance predecessor building was erected. Later, the property passed to the Barons Goder and by inheritance to the Barons Eckher zu Kapfing. They had the noble seat rebuilt into the current Baroque castle around 1720. As the builder was a nephew of the Prince-Bishop of Freising, Johann Franz von Eckher, the castle also served as a summer residence for the prince-bishops. In 1793, the Counts of Holnstein from Erding took over the estate, which led to changes of ownership and a decline.
